Death Valley Workshop Completed Successfully!

Photographer's silhouette - Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes

When Bill and I arrived Tuesday to check on our chosen locations we were greeted with a dust storm with winds of 70 miles per hour. We had our own sand dune in our hotel room! Unfortunately the dust remained in the sky partially obscuring the moon rise we had hoped to shoot. Nevertheless we were fortunate to have seasoned photographers in our group who understood that Mother Nature will give us what she wants. Thankfully we had a plan "B" which worked out well.
In the end we shot Mosaic canyon, the Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes, Badwater with its salt polygons, Zabriski Point and last but not least The Race Track Playa. We had our traditional BBQ at the Race Track after the sun went down and did the long haul back to Lone Pine where the Alabama Hills was the next days shoot. Sunrise was magical and we got nice shots of the Mt. Whitney Massif through the Mobius and Lathe arches.  We broke for a great breakfast at the Alabama Hills Cafe in town then went back and poked around the Alabama Hills with its unique and fascinating landscape.
All in all everyone said they had a great time and as usual we left with new friends, great conversations and a lot of fun. A big THANK YOU to everyone and here's to great shots and wonderful new trips in your futures.

Stay tuned for our next workshop, this time in the Northern California Redwoods May 30 - June 2nd 2012.
We are in the process of arranging lodging and will list a price shortly.

Cheers!

John
