Spring is almost here and....that means Wildflowers!

Wildflower - Abstracts
Spring will soon be upon us and if you're like me, you're thinking of wildflowers.  Over the last few years I discovered macro photography of wildflowers. As shown here - the California Poppy.
They're everywhere in the spring and lying in a field of them with a macro lens is fun and fascinating. A closeup shot of most any flower reveals incredible detail in their design and function. In this busy world there really is something to the old saying of  "stop and smell the roses" or in this case...well you get the drift.
After coming back to the studio I decided to process the images in the form of abstracts. The shapes textures and tonality of the images opened up all kinds of creative avenues. The day I took these particular photos was a bit windy so mostly the images were very soft but in some case had sharper detail along edges. All the better...I took some images and considered what each had to offer and in some cases desaturated the wonderful colors and brought out the shapes, textures and tonalities (there's' that set of words again - learned it from my mentor - Marv Miller) to make soft, sensuous images.
Get your cameras ready and study up on the macro features whether its a point and shoot or a larger format system with macro lenses and extension tubes. Flowers are already starting to pop up all over the San Francisco Bay Area.  If you'd like to see more of my abstract images click here  Wildflower Abstracts
